We are driven and challenged to achieve the collective ambitions of the region, through scrutiny and advocacy by an experienced board of Trustees, Patrons and Ambassadors who bring a diverse range of skills and expertise to the organisation.
National Partnerships Manager
Amber is National Partnerships & Contracts Manager at Active Cheshire. She is responsible for managing Active Cheshire’s contracts with Sport England, as well as building on existing and developing new partnerships both locally and nationally. Amber comes from a consultancy background working with local authorities and National Governing Bodies to develop Playing Pitch Strategies, Open Spaces Strategies and Active Travel Strategies. She was also part of the team that developed Local Football Facility Plans nationally for the FA. Prior to this, she worked in a support and coaching role at a primary school. Amber has a degree in Sport Psychology and is passionate about supporting others to achieve their full potential. Through studying and volunteering she has gained experience working in both professional and grassroots sporting environments, working with coaches and athletes from a wide range of sports. She is enthusiastic about playing her part in enabling individuals and communities across Cheshire and Warrington to be happy and healthy. When she isn’t working Amber can be found throwing weights around at CrossFit, climbing or relaxing at yoga. She also loves travelling the world with her husband Matthew and snuggling up on the sofa with her cats Lola and Poppy.
Strategic Partnership Manager Active Design
Steve is the Strategic Partnership Manager for Active Design. Steve joins the Active Cheshire team after 25 years working in the legal sector and brings a wealth of experience in terms of business development and relationship management. Active design aims to bring activity into everyday lives, whether that be in the workplace, at school or in the local community. Active design can cover a huge range of ideas from something as simple as signposting walking routes into the office to working with builder and property developers on new projects of any scale. Outside of work Steve is a keen cook and is passionate about Motor Sport. He combines this with his other hobby of Photography with regular visits to Oulton Park to watch Superbikes and Touring Cars. He is married to Alison, has a son, Morgan and a Springador called Rossi who Steve describes as “bonkers”
National Contracts Manager
Carl is the National Contracts Manager, who works alongside Amber. His responsibilities are around managing Active Cheshire’s contracts with Sport England, as well as building on existing and developing new partnerships both locally and nationally. With over 15 years of experience in the Sport & Leisure industry, he has worked in different areas within the sector. Since Carl was 16, he has worked in various roles such as a lifeguard, swimming teacher, personal trainer, duty manager, and swimming manager. Whilst at university studying BSc Sport and Exercise with Psychology and working in leisure, he worked at Bradford Bulls Rugby League Football club, in the community development department, starting as a volunteer to a full-time position. The role not only focussed on coaching rugby league in local schools and amateur clubs but also working with hard-to-reach young people. Carls previous roles involved working for Swim England/Institute of Swimming as Recruitment Academy Engagement Officer. The Recruitment Academy focused on bringing people from outside the sector into the sector by training them to become swimming teachers and linking them up with a leisure operator in their local area. Alongside these roles, he is a Swimming Coach for Satellites of Macclesfield, and a Tutor/Internal Verifier for the Institute of Swimming. He prides himself on his experience in development, delivery, marketing, sales, leadership, management, and project management. Qualifications Carl earned over the years include a degree, in Sport and Exercise with Psychology. For a large period in Carls life, he was involved in Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts, competing for England Kickboxing at the World Championships and on two occasions winning British Titles. Strategic Partnership Manager Active Minds
Roberta is the Strategic Partnership Manager for Active Minds and joined Active Cheshire in May 2019. She was born in Italy but, having lived in Cheshire for over 20 years she is grateful for the opportunities offered by the UK. She has many years’ experience as a lecturer and team leader in Further Education and as a career and engagement coordinator in the NHS in Cheshire and the Wirral working collaboratively with many stakeholders in our subregion. Roberta is passionate about social mobility, promoting the growth mindset and education leading to a better quality of life for all. Above all Roberta, a Mental Health First Aid instructor, and a member of the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) for mental health experts reference group, is a mental health ambassador. We all have mental health and how we look after it affects our quality of life. Staying active is to be an invaluable part of Roberta’s mental health self-care toolkit. Outside work, Roberta is also a volunteer Enterprise Adviser for the Career and Enterprise Company. A dog lover, in her free time, Roberta teaches Italian, likes hiking and baking. During the Lockdown months Roberta started growing fruit and vegetable in her garden, of which she is extremely proud.
Local Area Team Lead
Hayley is the Local Area Team Lead for Active Cheshire. Driving the Local Area Team, she is involved with tackling inactivity through the Active Kids and Active Workplaces schemes as well as through various other projects. Hayley has always lived in the Cheshire area and is keen to help tackle physical inactivity in the area through the main pillars of the Active Cheshire Blueprint. Hayley has a Sport Science background completing and undergraduate BSc and postgraduate MSc at Manchester Metropolitan University and is currently working towards completing her PhD with Staffordshire University working with adolescent netball players. As a keen netball player herself, Hayley has a real passion for the sport playing for Warrington Town’s regional Premiership team, she supports Liverpool Football Club and in her spare time enjoys going to the local gym. Hayley is very family orientated and in her remaining spare time is a hobby baker, making celebration cakes for friends and family.
Strategic Lead Active Kids
Nont is the Strategic Lead Active Kids at Active Cheshire. He brings a wealth of experience in the market, consumer and social research which places him to approach the issue of inactivity through understanding of human behaviours, societal and cultural trends. Nont led on several high profile research which led to the publication and showcasing at national and international platforms. Nont brings 5+ years of experience of working within the industry. As well as his knowledge and experience, Nont brings with him an abundance of energy, drive and enthusiasm. Born and raised in Thailand, Nont moved to the U.K. when he was 15 to join Liverpool F.C. Academy. Nont’s time at Liverpool was cut short due to a bad injury but he retained his passion and interest in physical activity and sport. Nont joined Active Cheshire as a volunteer in May 2013 and went on to secure his full-time position in September in 2013. He is passionate about creating opportunities for the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to lead healthy and active lifes. Nont’s world revolves around his family and friends, passion and interest in football and food! He is the designated chef for the office and can cook up a mean Thai Green Curry - as has done on several occasions!
Health & Social Care Activator
Roger is the Health and Social Care Activator at Active Cheshire and joined the team in June 2019. He is responsible for supporting Health and Social Care professionals to equip and enable them to promote physical activity to improve health and wellbeing. Rogers role involves building relationships and seeking opportunities to work in partnership with key stakeholders on projects across Cheshire and Warrington. He champions how small steps can lead to incorporating physical activity into everyday life and the real benefits this can bring. Roger is a regular Parkrunner in Cheshire and advocate of its inclusivity and the way it brings the local community together. Roger loves to travel with his fiancee Beth and they are never far away from planning their next adventure. He also enjoys walking, going to the gym, golf and skiing.
Jonathan Started at Active Cheshire on a 16 month apprenticeship but has recently been taken on as Permanent member of the team as a Delivery Officer. He was born in Carlisle but has lived in Cheshire since the age of three. Jonathan wants to pursue a career in the charity sector after volunteering for different charities in Cheshire. Straight after college Jonathan worked as a client support advisor within a busy admin team, for a big online retailer. In his spare time he volunteers as an assistant leader at a local cub pack, assisting with weekly meetings and camps. Jonathan plays bass guitar for a local band, playing gigs around Cheshire, Stoke and Manchester and until recently was a member of a local drama club. He is a keen sports person, which has included horse riding, sailing, gymnastics and he regularly plays football.
Eleanor looks to find new creative ways to connect with Cheshire and Warrington communities through Active Cheshire’s cooperate social media accounts. Working for the company for 3 years, she has helped build the company’s brand identity. Eleanor also produces Active Cheshire collateral. She enjoys writing press releases, and case studies about physical activity improving people’s lives. Since working at Active Cheshire, Eleanor has obtained a Level 3 Diploma in a Digital Essentials module to help develop her skills and experience in her line of work. Before Eleanor joined Active Cheshire, she worked as a Massage Therapist and worked in the privet sector in customer service roles. Eleanor is keen to delight customers, ensuring that every experience is an exceptional one. Eleanor is no fan of sports, but enjoys physical activity going to the gym, and nice long walks.
Active Archie is Active Cheshire’s mascot and Strategic lead for Fun. Starting off working in finance, Archie quickly realised this was not his calling and decided to become the company mascot. He supports the whole team with projects and events, bringing energy and fun wherever he goes. He is particularly popular with the Active Kids schools he visits to deliver the Active Plans. He proudly boasts the self-proclaimed title of Best Mascot in the World. Archie is also a keen sports star, with long distance running being a regular family activity. His favourite film is the Lion King, after it inspired him as a child to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He now uses this same inspiration to encourage the residents of Cheshire and Warrington to get more Active. In his free time you can usually find Archie in Winsford Town Park playing with the PlayBox toys or in the stylists having a mane cut and blow.
