Cheshire Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club ended their inaugural season in the National League unbeaten following wins in the final two games of the season on 25th March.

The club was formed in 2014 and entered Group G of the 4th Division of the National League for the first time for the 2016/17 season, competing against fellow North West teams Vikings (St. Helen’s) and Calderdale (Halifax).

The format of the league involves 3 rounds of competition in January and March and the Phoenix opened the league with a win and didn’t stop for the rest of the season.  That winning streak took the Phoenix to the top of the table with a 100% record in their first season, much to the delight of all the players and supporters.

Head Coach Anna Jackson said:

“I am so proud of the team both on and off the court, when we entered the league this season we just did not know how we would measure up to other more experienced teams and I am so pleased we have done so well”

“I have had a great time coaching the team this season and it’s been great to see new players getting their first experience of league basketball and to get everyone valuable court time.  We could not have done this without the support of our amazing volunteers so thank you to each and every one of them”

We look forward to hearing more about the continued success of Cheshire Phoenix next season!
